Dynamo Hut - Bullendale
Acrylic on deep edge wrap around canvas, ready to hang. Size: 76 x 37 cm.
Nothing left but echoes of the past, the burble of the creek and the whistling wind in the grass and remnants of a lifetime ago surround the rugged Skippers Creek Gully. Once the technological pinnacle of New Zealand industry, Bullendale boasted the first hydro electric scheme, powering the quartz reef gold mining operation. My own Great Great Grandfather James Edwards, a tin miner from Cornwall became mine manager at the Phoenix mine at Bullendale in the 1800's. The book "Golden Days of Lake County" by F.W.G. Miller, gives a fascinating glimpse of their lives in Bullendale.
